The 26-year-old right-back was arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences. The Record understands the charges relate to drink-driving.
The Ibrox star was released on an undertaking and is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday, April 8. It is not believed anyone was injured as a result of the incident.
A picture sent to the Record showed a black SUV type vehicle which had crashed into metal railings above the M8 motorway. The front of the car appeared crumpled and the airbags had blown inside. A large chunk of the metal safety railing was also missing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.25am on Sunday, January 4, 2026, police received a report of a one-vehicle crash on West Graham Street, Glasgow. There were no injuries reported.
“The driver, a 26-year-old man, was arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences. He’s expected to appear at court at a later date.”
Sterling played a key role in Rangers 3-1 victory against Celtic at Parkhead on Saturday.
Celtic had an early lead before Rangers managed to net three goals in the first Old Firm of the year.
The victory puts Danny Rohl’s side level on points with Celtic after having trailed nine points behind.
He was back on the pitch last night when Rangers won 2-0 against Aberdeen.
