Rangers are expected to appoint St Mirren vice-chairman Jim Gillespie as their new chief executive officer.
The Buddies’ chief is the leading candidate to replace Patrick Stewart, who the Gers sacked along with Kevin Thelwell in late November.
Gillespie is back in the running for a role at Ibrox after snubbing the chance to succeed James Bisgrove in August 2024.
Andrew Cavenagh is also looking for Thelwell’s replacement, but it looks like the vacant CEO position at the Glaswegian outfit will have a new face first.

The news outlet reports on 7 January that the vice-chairman at Paisley is in the running to become the new CEO at Ibrox for the second time.
It’s been claimed that the Gers’ chief has conducted an extensive search for Stewart’s replacements, with a knowledge of Scottish football and the ability to connect with fans essential.
Cavenagh also wants his new CEO to create a strong culture at the Glaswegian outfit and someone who can operate independently.
Gillespie meets the criteria wanted at Ibrox, and it seems like a matter of time before he arrives in G51.
While no timeline has been set for the appointment, it looks like the St Mirren chief is well-placed to be one of the new faces in G51.
