AT THE DOUBLE: Rangers are closing in on signings of £4million playmaker Tochi Chukwuani and £3m left back Tuur Rommens

Rangers are closing in on the £7million double signing of Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens.

Sturm Graz playmaker Chukwuani is on the brink of signing for Danny Rohl’s side after the Austrian club accepted a £4m offer.

The 22-year-old Dane played against Rangers in Graz’s victory in the Europa League earlier this season.

He also featured in the defeat to Celtic in Glasgow in the same competition, a match in which he was sent off late on.

A former team-mate of Mohamed Diomande’s at Nordsjaelland, Chukwuani will add the physical dimension to the Ibrox side which Rohl has been been looking for.

He is now expected to be joined in Glasgow by Westerlo left-back Rommens.
The 22-year-old played for Belgium at youth level and is believed to have attracted interest from clubs across Europe.

Rangers now appear to have won the race for his signature after submitting a £3m bid.

The deal for Rommens comes after Rangers had an offer close to £3m rejected by AEK Athens for defender James Penrice.

The 27-year-old former Hearts and Partick Thistle left-back joined the Greek Super League side last summer in a £2m deal.

AEK are top of the table, just ahead of fierce rivals Olympiacos, and are keen to maintain momentum.

Turkish clubs Besiktas and Basaksehir are also showing interest in the Scot, who was Hearts’ player of the year last season.

Club Brugge are weighing up a bid for Djeidi Gassama, with Villarreal also interested in the Rangers’ winger.

Meanwhile, Kris Boyd believes Rangers must further bolster their squad if they are to win the title.

The Light Blues have been rejuvenated in the Premiership under Rohl ,with their 2-0 win over Aberdeen at Ibrox on Tuesday night moving them into second place in the table.

Despite the upturn in results, the former Ibrox striker feels many of the performances haven’t been great.

‘I’ve been pretty consistent on the whole thing with Rangers,’ said Boyd. ‘They’ve been winning games of football, but it’s not been convincing.

‘We spoke about how poor Aberdeen were, especially that first half, but they still had arguably the two best chances of the half.

‘When you look at Rangers right now, it might not be convincing, but they’re winning games. I always feel as if ,when that’s happening, your luck eventually runs out and you run into trouble. And that’s where I think if Danny Rohl can go and get two or three players in, they can help the squad.’

Boyd feels the signing of a striker is a clear priority.

‘I know (Youssef) Chermiti got two goals at the weekend against Celtic, but I still think (Bojan) Miovski’s been a disappointment. He’s struggled so far,’ he added.

‘Danilo, the exact same. Chermiti obviously has the No9 jersey right now, but I still think Rangers need somebody at the top end of the pitch.

‘I still think they need to strengthen in other areas as well if they’re going to mount a serious challenge, I think still defensively.

‘(Emmanuel) Fernandez has been scoring goals, (Nasser) Djiga has to come back, but I’m not convinced with him either.

‘I feel as if Danny Rohl would be looking for a centre-back, and left-back is still an area (where he needs to strengthen).

‘The three midfielders have done well recently, (Connor) Barron, (Mohamed) Diomande and (Nico) Raskin, but it looked as if Diomande went off with a slight injury.

‘Will he be available for the weekend (Aberdeen away)? Mikey Moore as well, we were a bit surprised with that decision for him to leave the field at half-time, it suggests to me that there might have been a niggle there as well. So, there is no doubt Rangers need to strengthen.’
