Celtic are working on a deal to sign a replacement for Kasper Schmeichel during the transfer market with Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega a key target, according to Football Insider.
After succeeding Wilfried Nancy earlier this week, Martin O’Neill says the Bhoys are now ready to go ‘all out’ before the February 2 deadline to strengthen their squad, following a disappointing season.
Celtic have already completed the loan signing of Julian Araujo from Bournemouth, but it is unlikely that will be the last of their business in the next weeks.
The Glasgow giants currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership table and six points adrift of leaders Hearts, while they also trail arch-rivals Rangers by three points despite their own awful start to the campaign – although O’Neill’s men do have a game in hand.

Celtic Make New Goalkeeper Signing a ‘Priority’
According to Football Insider, Celtic have made signing a new stopper a ‘priority’https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-celtic-work-on-signing-kasper-schmeichel-replacement-its-a-priority-deal/ as they look to replace Kasper Schmeichel with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
The Bhoys signing a new goalkeeper this month is a ‘serious’ possibility should the right opportunity arise, but they are also willing to wait until the summer if needed to ensure they get the right player.
Schmeichel’s recent performances at Celtic have come under scrutiny from supporters, with the club now assessing their options to find a successor to the Denmark international for the 2026-27 campaign.
The 39-year-old is also on a significant wage at Parkhead, with the club having no plans to extend his contract as things stand.
A new number one is required for Celtic, as they don’t consider Viljami Sinisalo to be experienced enough to make the step up.
Celtic Want Stefan Ortega
One of Celtic’s key targets for the goalkeeper position is Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega.
The German is seen as being either third or fourth choice at the Etihad by manager Pep Guardiola, who wants to get rid of the 33-year-old as quickly as possible.
Ortega’s contract runs out in the summer, but there might be an opportunity to agree a deal this month because of the good relationship between the two clubs.
What Other Business Could Celtic Do?
It was reported on Wednesday that Celtic are also on the verge of signing of Hadjuk Split defensive midfielder Niko Sigur.
The Canadian international had also been interesting rock-bottom Premier League team Wolverhampton Wanderers, but now it seems as though it is the Bhoys who have won the race for the 22-year-old.
Nancy’s exit had raised doubts over a deal, but now it seems as though the Scottish giants are pushing ahead to bring him in to Parkhead this month.
New also broke on Thursday that Celtic are close to agreeing a shock return to the club for Kyogo Furuhashi, potentially in time for this weekend’s match with Dundee United.
