Rangers are set to complete a deal for Westerlo defender Tuur Rommens, with the deal now in the ‘final phase’.
That’s according to journalist Pieter-Jan Calcoen and Het Nieuwsblad, who both cover the impeding Rangers arrival today.
Calcoen simply reports on X that Tuur Rommens’ transfer from Westerlo to Danny Röhl’s side is ‘nearing completion’. Nieuwsblad offer more information on the Ibrox switch.
They state that Rangers have been showing interest in the 22-year-old for some time. A €3.5m offer has now been made, which Westerlo are considering. For now, the defender is still at a training camp in Antalya, Türkiye, with Westerlo.
He is training with them as normal while his club consider the offer. The newspaper states that if the situation is right, they are not averse to Rommens’ departure this month. That would suggest that they’ll sanction a deal for the right price. Whether €3.5m will be enough isn’t mentioned.
Pieter-Jan Calcoen’s claims are more advanced, and it would be assume the offer has now been accepted. Rommens would now need to travel and go through formalities before any announcement.
Lyle Foster remains Westerlo’s record departure at €11m. A €3.5m move for Rommens would make him the sixth most expensive departure in the club’s history.
Either way, it appears that Rangers are working on the transfer and it’s there to be done.
