Rangers are closing in on a £7 million transfer double deal to sign Tuur Rommens and Tochi Chukwuani, as Danny Rohl looks to strengthen his squad this month.
The Rangers Review understands that Chukwuani is closing in on a £4 million move to Ibrox, with a deal being in place with his current club in Austria.
The midfielder, who faced Rangers last year in the Europa League, was left out of the Sturm Graz squad for their friendly against Club Brugge.
The 22-year-old is on the brink of signing for the Scottish Premiership side, ahead of their league match against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
Additionally, Chukwuani will be joined by defender Rommens, following an agreement with Westerlo for the Belgium U21 international. It is understood that the player will sign a long-term contract for a fee in the region of £3 million.
Rommens, who is currently managed by former Rangers coach Issame Charai, has been identified as a full-back option to challenge on-loan defender Jayden Meghoma on the left side of the backline.
The club were also tracking former Hearts full-back James Penrice, who plays in Greece for AEK Athens, though it is Rommens who will add depth in this area for Rangers in the second half of the season.
Neither Chukwuani nor Rommens have undergone medicals ahead of their respective Glasgow moves, though both are close to joining up with the rest of Rohl’s squad in time for their Pittodrie away trip.
Earlier this week, Rohl gave an update on his side’s transfer work. “I’m positive that we will not sign all the players on the last day,” he said. “I think we can do something, if I say now it will be in the next two days, and then it’s three days, [people] they will ask me why.
“But I’m more positive, and then it could be at the end of the window, you find someone that can really make a big difference, and then you can go again, but we are clear on which positions we want to do something.”
