Rangers’ latest transfer target once caused uproar vs Celtic, fans will love him

Posted on January 7, 2026January 7, 2026 by Mrsport

Rangers have been linked with a midfielder who caused Celtic fury in the Europa League.

Now that Celtic have re-appointed Martin O’Neill, there’s a fair amount of expectation that they will start picking up more points more frequently.
As a result, it’s going to be vital that Rangers secure some new arrivals sooner rather than later, having now been linked with a new midfielder.

Based on his performances this season, it would certainly be a welcome addition at Ibrox, but after what he did against Celtic in October, he will be welcomed even more.

Rangers want to sign Tochi Chukwuani in January
Reports emerged this week stating that Rangers want to sign Tochi Chukwuani to bolster their midfield options under Danny Rohl, with talks already underway.

To Gers supporters, it may not be a name that rings too many bells, but for Celtic, it certainly will, and many Rangers fans have already clocked on to that.

The reason for that is that Chukwani received a straight red card for Sturm Graz in their 2-1 defeat to Celtic in the Europa League last October, for a challenge that was deemed dangerous.

Celtic’s Callum McGregor was on the receiving end of it, with supporters disgusted by the challenge that saw him receive his marching orders.

After the links connecting him with a move to Ibrox, Rangers fans swarmed to the footage of the challenge, though he would be an excellent addition for more reasons than that.

Not only is Chukuwani only 22 years old, but he has also showcased his quality in the Austrian league throughout the current campaign.

Via Sofascore, he averages 2.3 tackles and 5.9 duels won per game, showcasing his combative tendencies in midfield.

On top of that, Chukwuani has a 90 per cent pass completion in his own half, with 0.9 key passes per game.

If he were to arrive at Ibrox, it would almost certainly be to play a deeper role, and based on his displays this season, he would be a perfect fit.
